Schlumberger 4000 series

We have schlumberger 4000 series  pumps at our station and wanted to see what we can do to upgrade to vapor assist pumps? We're just having too many issues with balanced system, mostly the nozzle but as I understand many places are going back to the old style pump? What can I do to help customers (self service-PA) from their nozzles prematurely stopping, and falling out when the tank is full?  I have been told these pumps are too old and don't have the add on parts to make it vapor assist, is this true?

We don't use balance much anymore, and when we did use it a lot, it was with Tokheims.  However, the first question to ask when someone was complaining about nozzles shutting off excessively or early was:  Do you have a liquid removal device in the hose and is it properly installed?

The CARB Executive Order for our older balance systems was G-70-52-AM, which may still apply to your system.  You can see where it refers to liquid removal systems and their proper location and functioning.  You can find Executive Orders generally here:

I don't know about nozzles falling out of the tank, though.  You need a real tech to answer that.

I do not believe we have the liquid removal device as every morning we purge a few drops out of the pump nozzle.

As for the nozzles falling out: I think this occurs when the tank is too deep inside the car. The proper way to insert this nozzle is in and down which locks it in place. However I have gone outside to helps customers and found some cars you can not even lock it meaning you have to minor force to hold the nozzle in. My main concern is the nozzle and that customers should not have to keep holding the nozzle pushed in. This can be extremely difficult for some females and even include males. The pumps stopping to early is something I can deal with as it doesn't have often.

I spoke a tech about the nozzles falling out and was advised that I can either spend 25K to upgrade the pumps or deal with. I know these pumps are old but there should be some sort of solution to this issue.

Sorry, maybe I can answer about the nozzles falling out, then.  We get, or used to get, the same complaints about women not being able to hold the nozzles against the vehicle, etc.  I could be wrong, but I think some of them were designed so the customer did have to hold them against the vehicle under at least a slight pressure for them to operate.  At least I can recall having rental cars, for example where I could not get the nozzle to stay in place.  One of the reasons we went to vac assist was just this sort of customer complaints.  And yes, we did spend a lot of money switching some of those locations over.
Balance system nozzles are designed with a switch that does not allow fuel to flow unless the bellows is compressed and sealed against the vehicle filler neck.
The first question I have is; what make and model nozzle are you using? There are many varieties of balanced nozzles.
As for the tech trying to get you into new dispenser, I do not blame him. You should start saving to get them replaced asap. They are dated with VERY limited parts available.
In the meantime, let me know what make and model nozzles you have and maybe we can help buy you some time until you can afford new dispensers.
Is there anyone in Valley forge, philadelphia area that does upgrades with rebuild pumps? I need vac assist but keep in mind I have a budget for about 12-15K, anymore I would have to wait.

I will also get the model number for the nozzles once I go to the station, right now I'm away.
